(Repost) National Emission Standards I, II, III, IV, V and VI

2023-03-22

China Stage 1 to Stage 6 Emission Standards are as follows:

1. China Stage 1 Standard: Referencing Euro 1 standard, it mainly sets limit values for carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and particulate matter emissions. The limit of carbon monoxide is 3.16g/km and hydrocarbons is 1.13g/km. Vehicles meeting this standard are classified as China Stage 1 vehicles, and so on for subsequent standards.

2. China Stage 2 Standard: Compared with Stage 1, single vehicle carbon monoxide emission is reduced by 30%, while hydrocarbons and carbon oxide emissions are cut by 55%.

3. China Stage 3 Standard: It adds vehicle on-board diagnostic system and upgrades three-way catalytic converters. The total pollutant emissions are lowered by 40% compared with Stage 2.

4. China Stage 4 Standard: It optimizes the exhaust after-treatment system, cutting pollutant emissions by 50% to 60% compared with Stage 3.

5. China Stage 5 Standard: Nitrogen oxide emissions are reduced by 25% versus Stage 4. It also imposes stricter limits on non-methane hydrocarbons and particulate matter, effectively curbing air pollution and smog formation.

6. China Stage 6 Standard: Its emission control requirements are 40% to 50% stricter than Stage 5. More stringent than Euro 6 standard and equivalent to US standards, it ranks among the world’s most rigorous vehicle emission standards.
